Magnetooptic disks require erasure before recording. When data for a multiple of tracks is to be recorded upon the end of the erasing cycle which erases a plurality of tracks, a track seek back to the initial erasure position is avoided by reversing the data and recording the plurality of tracks in a reversed direction. In an alternative, the erasure can proceed in a direction opposite to the normal recording direction (radially inwardly is normal) with the data being recorded upon the completion of the erasure without reversing the data. In both instances, the data is recorded in proper order on the disk beginning at a radially outward track and proceeding to a radially inward track.
