Method for Printing Block Graphics
The method of the present invention increases throughput of a printer when
printing block graphics.
Block graphics characters are characters which are designed to connect
vertically and horizontally while printing six lines per inch. Due to the height of
the characters, printing requires two passes of the print head which is
accomplished by algorithmically extending the character in the vertical and
The present method increases throughput by identifying the parts of the block
graphic character which do not need to be expanded and connected vertically.
Inasmuch as these parts can be printed on a single pass, the second pass is only
made when an algorithmic extension of the character is required. The
elimination of the second pass a portion of the time enhances the throughput of
printing lines which contain the characters.
