Where a stationary wide angle camera is used to capture a large field of view, it is possible to select and process only pels within a smaller viewport in that field of view. This limits the amount of data to be transmitted over a bandwidth-limited transmitting system. Alternatively, an operator at the receiving location may wish to select the viewport. Described is a technique for furnishing (via the bandwidth-limited transmission medium) the information needed by the operator to make the selection.
