Abstract

A solvent/co-solvent system with low toxicity components allows direct casting or spinning of b-PVDF films from the solution. Large areas can be coated from this solution thus resulting in a thin film with excellent thermal and acoustic coupling to the substrate. Film thickness orders of magnitude smaller than with conventional extruded or cast films can so be achieved, resulting in a faster and more sensitive transducer. Films can be parted from the substrate to obtain free standing films.
