Defects caused by organic contamination in optical disks containing a magnetooptic (MO) material can only be observed under crossed polarizers using an optical microscope. These defects only show up after many erase, write and read cycles with a laser. It is desirable to know if a disk will have this type defect prior to extensive testing as these defect areas are high error areas.
