A technique for quantitatively measuring the adhesion of a carbon overcoat or film on a workpiece involves the measurement of the force needed to peel the carbon film off the workpiece. Since the carbon film is too thin to grip and peel, the carbon film is placed on a material which forms a strong bond with the carbon. The force necessary to separate the bi-film from the workpiece is then measured.
