Provided is a menu bar which is highly interactive and dynamic to overcome
the deficiencies of conventional menu bars.
The technique provides a menu bar which contains multiple lines of menu
choices. The user is provided the capability of controlling the number of menu
bar lines displayed. When the number of lines displayed is less than the number
of existing menu bar lines, then the menu bar is scrollable in horizontal, vertical,
and diagonal directions. In cases of scrollable menu bars, scrolling indicators are
displayed in the menu bar to indicate the presence of other menu choices. The
user ultimately can disable presentation of the menu bar.
The advantages to the user include a more usable menu bar in that unnatural
groupings of actions under menu choices are avoided and extra lines used by
menu bar wrapping are recovered, a productive system in that fewer worksteps
are required to access function due to elimination of intermediate step pop-up
menus, and a technique which is implemented consistently across applications.
