A Graphical "Thumbwheel" Selection Technique
Provided is a visual, scrollable, single item selection mechanism for iconic
choices for a single option in order to overcome the disadvantages of displaying
all valid selections in a static selection bar.
The technique provides a small scrollable window which displays a single
valid choice for a functional option. The window appears graphically on the
computer screen like a digital thumbwheel selection device that is common in the
physical workplace. The user can display other function options in the window by
"clicking" the thumbwheel selection mechanism in either horizontal or vertical
directions. The technique is very useful for iconic presentation of options.
The advantages to the user are an easy to use iconic display of object
attributes and a technique which allows easy masking of a large number of
