Abstract

There are several advantages to using a screen manager program when developing interactive full screen application programs. The screen manager program handles the chores of data display and editing on behalf of an application program. In the case where many application programs need to use the screen at different times, much duplication of development time and effort can be avoided. However, the interface between application programs and the screen manager program is often designed more for run time efficiency than for human readability. For this reason, it can be cumbersome for application programmers to generate the descriptive information necessary for the screen manager program to do its job.
