Use of Cobalt to Prevent Iron Migration to the Surface of Electrical Contact Pins

A technique is described whereby an improved electro-plating process interjects an intermediate layer of cobalt to prevent iron migration on the surface of electrical contact pins. By eliminating Fe on the surface, the process reduces the oxidation of Fe which in turn minimizes the increase in the contact resistance.
