Circuit Boards With Light Distribution Layers

Proposed are printed circuit boards in which, in addition to the conventional electric power layers, light distribution layers are used. The conventional signal distribution (wiring) layers are replaced by suitable layers of optical fibers. Board-mounted chips are operated in a known manner, using electrical signals. The latter are converted into optical signals as they pass between chips and boards. Known fiber optic concepts use an individual light source for each logic signal required. The light source is switched. The electrical logic signals are converted into light logic signals by the individual converters and then transmitted through fiber optic connections.
