A technique is described whereby a high speed interface provides an integral interface between IBM Series/1 Systems and IBM Personal Computers. The design provides a high speed port between the IBM S/1 and the PC, utilizing a memory access method whereby the S/1 attachment memory becomes a functioning part of the PC. This allows the PC microprocessor to access the S/1 attachment memory on a shared basis in the same way it accesses its own memory. The design interfaces to the existing PC input/output (I/O) expansion file driver card. All necessary timing and signal conditioning appears as an extension of the PC interface. The design is unique in that a new PC interface card is not required.
