Abstract

The following butyl rubber compound is usable as a gasket material for ink jet printheads. Material Amount Butyl Rubber 100.0 N330 Carbon Black 80.0 Based upon 100 Paraffin Oil 8.0 parts of rubber Stearic Acid 1.0 Zinc Oxide 5.0 Sulfur 1.5 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole 0.5 Tetramethylthiuram disulfide 1.5 The materials are mixed in an internal mixer typical of those found in the rubber industry. The compound is cured 15 minutes at 320ΠF. The compound has a shore A hardness of 80 measured according to ASTM D2240-68. Similar butyl rubbers can be formulated ranging in durometer from 40A to 80A by altering the amount of Carbon Black and Paraffin Oil in the material composition.
