Abstract

This article describes a method to allow "Save" and "Recall" functions from L3P margin text containing controls not valid in body text without loss of data. DisplayWrite 3* is a text processing program that allows a block of text to be saved in an L3P document, i.e., into body text from margin text, e.g., headers and footers. A problem arising from this process is that L3P margin text may contain controls that are not allowed in L3P body text. Specifically, "Print Page Name" and "Set Print Page Number" margin text controls are not permitted within body text. To allow "Block Save" and "Recall" of margin text within DisplayWrite 3 without loss of data, a specific control, "Encapsulating Data Control" (EDC), is provided. When margin text is block saved into an L3P document, the text is scanned for controls.
