A head/disk assembly (HDA) for a disk file is supported on shock mounts in a cradle. The cradle bearing the HDA may be slid into and retained in a drawer assembly containing the remaining components of the file. The HDA is isolated from shocks by the shockmounts. As shown in the drawings, the HDA is a sealed enclosure 1 with an approximately rectangular metal base casting 2 having attachment points 3. The cradle 4 is made from mild steel and is provided with four rubber shockmounts 5 through which it is bolted to the HDA at points 3. The cradle is designed to be slid on its lower edges into a drawer-type housing (not shown) containing the remaining components of the file.
