Abstract

A magnetic disk file has a sealed disc enclosure 1 and an integral motor assembly 2, both mounted on a bracket 3in the lower compart- ment 4 of a box 5 which also has an upper compartment 6. At one end of the lower compartment 4 is a louvred air inlet 7 connected to a centrifugal fan 8 surrounded by an air guide 9, providing two air outlets 10 and 11. By providing two independent outlets, the areas of the outlets can be matched exactly to the flow resistances and airflow requirements of the two compartments. In addition, outlets 10 and 11 are designed to optimize the flow direction of the air into the upper and lower compartments. The upper airflow is redirected across and through the compartment 6, in which are located a circuit card stack 12 and a switched mode power supply 13.
