Virtual Maintenance Subsystem

This article describes a technique to provide virtual maintenance support for a system and its attached devices. It performs this function without using an additional service processor. The normal maintenance support system has been to use a separate intelligent source after the error has occurred to isolate the failure. With the advent of very reliable central electronic complex (CEC) and with the low failure rates of the processor units (PUs), the maintenance support system disclosed herein is migrated to the same intelligence and the failure is isolated as it is happening. This shrinks the cost of the system, and the benefit of the cost change is to increase the detection and reliability of the system.
