Abstract

In certain terminal devices, flexible printed circuits are used to interconnect terminal devices, e.g., a display terminal to a controller or a data source. One of the problems associated with such attachments is registration, particularly in high resolution devices. A termination method which provides termination of flexible printed circuits to a rigid pressure type connector is described below: The rigid member comprises a printed circuit card 1, while the flexible member comprises a polyimide film 3 having an adhesive film on its lower surface. One of the circuits (rigid or flex) must have plated through holes. The flexible circuit land 5 has an underside 7 coated with a low temperature solder, while the corresponding land 9 on the printed circuit card is coated with tin-lead solder, a low temperature solder alloy.
