The surface mounting of harcons (high density area array connectors) to a printed circuit board (PCB) is accomplished by the use of a solder assembly template that holds the harcons in the correct alignment until the harcon foot is soldered to a solder pad foot print of the PCB. As seen in the partial view in Fig. 1, harcon 1 is attached to a selvage strip 2. A harcon solder foot 3 (Fig. 1) is surface soldered to a conforming solder pad foot print 4 (Fig. 2) of a PCB 5. Note that for the purpose of illustrating detail Fig. 1 is enlarged in scale. A solder template assembly bottom plate 6 is located on PCB 5 by locating pins 7 that fit in fixture location holes 8. When the bottom plate 6 is located on PCB 5 tapered round holes 9 on the bottom plate 6 line up with the solder pad foot prints 4 on the PCB 5.
