Two host communication products each having error-handling routines are connected together via a data link. An error injection tool with full screen edit facilities is inserted in the data link. Messages transmitted between the host products may be displayed on the screen and errors keyed into the data link. This enables repeatable controlled errors to be introduced into the data link to provide error testing aided by the host error routines. Normally errors are random and controlled testing cannot be performed easily. Fig. 1 shows two host communication products with internal error-handling routines connected together in a conventional manner by a data link to transmit messages in both directions.
