An embodiment of such a piezoelectric transducer is shown in the cross- sectional view. The detector extends across the entire line width. The print hammers do not impact platen 1 directly, but a steel band 2 which, in the impact area of the print hammers, has a ridge 3 with a thickness of 0.1 to 0.14 mm. In the peripheral areas 4, steel band 2 is only about 0.06 mm thick. The smaller thickness in those areas is preferably obtained by etching. Peripheral areas 4 of steel band 2 are clamped in grooves 5 of clamping bars 6. Clamping bars 6 are each provided with a protrusion 7 on which the ribbon moves. Between ridge 3 and platen 1, an about 0.06 mm thick commercial piezo foil 8, extending across the entire line width, is provided. Piezo foil 8 may be replaced by several piezo plates connected in parallel.
