Continuously Variable Slope Delta Modulation

A method is described to implement a general-purpose continuously variable slope delta (CVSD) compression algorithm with a signal processor. CVSD is an algorithm that compresses an incoming bandlimited signal by removing some of the signal's redundancy. This implies that CVSD can be used to compress such signals as voice, music and pure sinusoids. The advantages of implementing the CVSD technique on a signal processor are it allows a more general purpose design and the software to technique can also be used to uncompress data compressed by a set of hardware chips. The software implementation allows variability, such as multiple data rates and optimized filtering. Multiple data rates are allowed by hardware and software implementations.
