Disclosed is a concept of providing a user of an interactive terminal immediate and informative feedback about a request being typed in. The concept is applicable to workstations or any full-duplex terminals which have the capacity to capture every keystroke directly. Features of the disclosed concept are: (1) when the user mis-types a request, to give as immediate feedback as possible that there was an error and where it occurred, and (2) for incomplete (but otherwise correct) requests, to show the user how the partial request may correctly be continued. On a workstation or terminal having the key-stroke-capture capacity, as the user begins to type in a request which shows in a request line, a window should appear at some other location on the screen.
