In the store in a cache system, invalid data will not be transferred if the memory controller fails to transfer a master copy of the data from a cache to main memory. When a transfer of the master data is initiated, the controller provides a busy signal to all requestors of data at the location in main memory receiving the master copy. If the master copy is not transferred correctly, the controller forces a UE condition on the data at that main memory location even when the data does not violate the protecting error correction code. The controller then lifts the busy signal so that requestors can access that memory position. However, the UE flag warns the requestors not to use the data.
