Dual Component Magnetic Brush Developer
A magnetic brush developer is described which allows a thick mix to be
formed on the rolls with a low mass flow rate.
Magnets 17 inside rolls 8 and 9 (any number of rolls can be used) cause the
mix to stay on rolls 8 and 9 through a full 360-degree rotation. The developer mix
moves from sump 11 in direction 15 to roll 8. Optional doctor blade 13 controls
the final thickness of the mix on roll 8.
Additional doctor blades 14 peel off a small percent of mix from rolls 8 and 9
leaving the larger mass of mix on the rolls. Doctor blades 14 are located on a
portion of the longitudinal axis of rolls 8 and 9 at the end of the sump opposite to
the toner replenisher. The peeled-off surface mix falls into sump 11 where it is
replenished with toner added to the sump. Since the mix tumbles as it transfers
from magnet to magnet, fresh toner is always available at the top surface of the
The system thus creates a low mass flow rate across sump 11 and in area 15
and assures a thick mix on rolls 8 and 9 with a fresh toner surface.
