Method for detecting write failures using the disk write cache

There are several reasons a write failure would not be detected by the disk drive. These can include medium defects, off-track writes, or head bounce. One solution is to use the cache on the disk drive to do internal readback checks during idle time, regardless of whether drive caching is turned on or off.
