Laser Etched Suspension Groove

The wide walls 5 of the head suspension groove 7 of head 6 are laser etched in the shaded areas 10 to form the slots 8 seen in the side elevation of Fig. 2. These slots 8 provide positive locking in the suspension groove for a cooperating suspension and substantially reduce the negative crown of the air bearing surface 11 of the slider. The depth of the etched slots 8 reduces the force on the slider head 6 exerted by the tangs of the suspension. The use of the etched slots 8 also enables quicker alignment of head to suspension at reduced cost.
