This labeler applies preprinted labels to 5»-inch diskettes, or prints blank labels and then applies the printed labels onto the diskette. Labels 20 are supplied in fanfold form and are attached to a paper-backing web 21. When the web of labels is pulled around sharp bend 22, the label peels from its paper backing. This operation requires quick and relatively smooth movement of the labels around the sharp bend. To accomplish this, the label mechanism employs an AC motor, coupled to drive shaft 23 by a magnetic clutch. The paper backing is fed between this drive shaft and a roller 24. When the clutch is engaged, the shaft turns, thereby pulling the labels and paper backing web through the mechanism. After a specified time, the clutch is disengaged and the label and its backing web stop.
