Abstract

A xerographic copier can be stopped or paused, and then restarted, whereupon the copier completes the paused job. The copier includes an automatic document feeder that can operate in a recirculating automatic document feeder mode (RADF), an automatic document feed mode (ADF), or a semi-automatic document feed mode (SADF). The copier's control panel includes three control buttons, i.e., AUTO START, MANUAL START and STOP/PAUSE. The user may invoke the PAUSE function by pushing the STOP/PAUSE button whenever the copier is running and no error in copier operation has been detected by the copier's control logic. The copier then stops making copies, and runs out all of the copy sheets in process. A PLEASE STANDBY message is displayed on the control panel's cathode ray tube (CRT) until runout is complete.
