A CP system diagnostic service permits a virtual machine running under VM/SP to process DIAGNOSE instructions executed by other virtual machines. This instruction is used by virtual machines to request a service of the Control Program (CP) in a synchronous manner. What the diagnostic service does is provide a mechanism whereby the servicing of a DIAGNOSE instruction can be performed by a program running in another virtual machine. A simplified usage scenario is shown as follows: 1. Server machine S issues an IUCV CONNECT to the diagnostic service specifying that it wishes to service DIAGNOSE code X. The diagnostic service ACCEPTS the connection after verifying that S is authorized to service code X. 2. Client C executes DIAGNOSE code X. 3.
