Abstract

A flight time bar with a convex impact surface provides more accurate measurement of print hammer flight time to insure good print quality in a high speed line printer. As seen in the figures, a flight time bar 1 consists of a flexible contact strip 2 bonded to the convex front surface 3 of a rigid mounting bar 4. Contact strip 2, as seen in Fig. 4, consists of conductive combs 5 and 6 electrically connected respectively to ground and a electric potential. Combs 5 and 6 have a plurality of interleaved conductive lands 7 and 8 separated by nonconductive areas 9. Combs 5 and 6 may be formed by etching a thin conductive layer laminated to a dielectric substrate 10, such as a well known prepreg. As seen in Fig. 4, lands 7 and 8 are dimensioned and spaced so that two or more are spanned by the face 11 of metallic print hammer 12.
