Abstract

A copier monitoring system consists of a host computer or controller which communicates with terminals attached to copiers in a multi-copier installation. The host has several input/output (I/O) ports, and may have one or more terminals attached to each I/O port. A terminal will detect that the link to the host has been lost when it transmits a message and does not receive the expected reply from the host. When this occurs, the terminal will go into an offline mode, saving the information on copier walk-ups, or transactions, for later transmission to the host. When the communication link is reestablished, the terminal will transmit to the host one record for each offline transaction (there may be several offline transaction messages to transmit).
