Cogged Shrink Ring for Disk Clamping

The shrink ring disk assembly clamp shown in Fig. 1 uses a cogged shrink ring attached to the spindle hub and a cooperating cogged washer that can be released and resecured to permit disk rework. This permits disassembly and reassembly of the disk stack without disturbing the interference fit between the clamping ring and the hub or the axial force established between the disks, spacers and clamping elements of the disk stack assembly. As seen in Fig. 2, the shrink ring 5 has cogs 6 equally spaced around the outside of the ring. Fig. 1 shows the shrink ring 5 imparting a clamping force to the bell clamp 7 and disk stack 8 through a cogged washer 9.
