Method for Converting Charts in Interactive Display System

A method is described in which the operator of an interactive text processing system is provided with the ability to convert a multicomponent-type graphic chart such as a bar chart with more than one set of data, to another selected component type chart having one selected set of data. In this method a scaled down version of the multi-component chart is displayed to the operator in response to the operator's selection. In this display each set of data is labeled as is each group of data in the manner shown in Fig. 1, where the sets are labeled X, Y, and Z, and the groups are labeled 1979, 1980 and 1981. One option allows the operator to convert the data in Fig. 1 to a single component bar chart where one set X of data is graphed as in Fig. 2 or where one group of data 1979 is graphed as in Fig. 3.
