Compact Micro-Store for Vlsi Computers

The state-of-the-art two-level microsystem provides the basis for a compact approach since it reduces the traditional micro read-only memory (ROM) to two smaller ROMs, namely, the micro-store and the NANO-store. New approaches are applied to the micro-store for further compactness and efficient execution of micro-branches. A concept of unique fields in the micro-address with each field being changeable by independent sources leads to a solution which is applicable and efficient in all cases, even if chip boundaries must be crossed in multiple chip solutions. The concepts for compacting the micro-store involve both addressing and content. The addressing requires three independent fields as follows: o Op Code - the bits or the coding of the bits in the instruction word which define the operation to be performed.
