Abstract

An automatic screwdriver bit assembly has a shaft with an internal bit holder. The bit holder has a central portion of reduced diameter between grooved ends to allow vacuum to be pulled up through the shaft to a pick-up head having multiple orifices for picking up both a washer and a screw. As shown in Fig. 1, hollow screwdriver shaft 1 has at one end a flange 2 for connection to a vacuum supply and a vacuum pick-up head 3 at the other end. Pick-up head 3 has a primary vacuum orifice 4 for picking up a screw surrounded by four secondary orifices 5 for picking up a washer. The arrangement allows pick-up of a screw and washer either together or individually. Fig. 2 shows bit holder 6 which fits inside hollow shaft 1. Bit holder 6 is fixed at one end to the rotational drive of an automatic screwdriver via hexagonal portion 7.
