Providing a user-settable graphic space border attribute allows the user to view the outer boundaries of a graphic space during creation and editing. In an editor which allows the user to create graphic objects in-line while editing a document, a graphic area is allocated within the document area for creating graphic objects such as rectangles, circles, or lines. Providing a user-selectable border allows the user to view the outer boundaries of the graphic space while creating or editing graphic objects within the graphic space. The border can be turned off upon completion of creating or editing of graphic objects by resetting an attribute.
