In AC plasma display devices, parallel conductor arrays overcoated with a glass dielectric are encapsulated in a gaseous medium with the lower and upper conductor arrays referenced to the display surface but disposed substantially orthogonal to each other. The figure constitutes a front view representation of a portion of a plasma display device, but is not intended to illustrate the relative size or scale of the various components therein. An array of metal lines 11 designated the upper conductors, covered with a thin dielectric layer 13, constitutes one set of electrodes of the plasma display device, while the other set of electrodes comprise recessed metal lines 15 coated with a thicker dielectric layer 17.
