Abstract

This article describes a modular arrangement of optical assemblies of a printhead which allow the assemblies to be interchanged without further adjustments. The scan set module 10 and the rotating mirror assembly 11 are shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The scan set module 10 contains a toroidal lens 12, spherical lens 13, and cylindrical lens 14. It rests on three machined pads and is located by dowels 15 and 16. Pin 15, nearest the opening for the mirror assembly 11, is used to locate the scan set module 10 from the inside of the printhead and rotating mirror/spindle assembly 11 from the outside of mounting 23. One of the most critical aspects of the interchangeability is the location of the rotating mirror facet 17, with respect to the lenses in the scan set module 10.
