Described is a set-up procedure that minimizes improper option switch settings. When a copier control system is installed, the person who sets up the system has a number of initialization steps to perform. Part of this initialization is to set up user-selectable features correctly for each copier device in the system. Features can be set up on the device by turning switches on or off on the back of the unit. Copiers in the system may be located up to 4,000 feet away from the host. If the user has not set the user-selectable functions correctly, it is difficult to determine exactly what is wrong if a particular device does not initially function properly. The following feature alleviates this problem.
