Described is a means for monitoring the volume of the contents of a diskette and warning the system operator that the diskette should be replaced. In a copier control system using a diskette for storing the system's activity, it is necessary to detect when the diskette is almost full. If no effort is made to warn the system operator, data may be lost when the storage diskette becomes full. A typical host computer for a copier control system may use a 320K-byte, dual-sided diskette drive as the transaction storage device. On this diskette, a record of each activity from various copiers is stored. Also on this diskette is a record of the system's availability. The time and date when each copier comes on-line or goes off-line is stored. Calls for service interventions are also recorded on this diskette.
