Abstract

Communication with terminals in a computer-based copier control system is allowed or blocked based upon centrally stored availability information. A copier control system consists of a host computer or controller which communicates with terminals that are attached to copiers in a multi-copier installation. The controller and terminals communicate with each other based on unique addresses of each terminal. At system installation, the user sets address switches on each terminal for the terminal's unique address. Occasionally, certain copiers are ready to be attached to the system before others. There can be unavoidable delays, such as obtaining interface packages to attach certain copiers to the system, or delays in completing the wiring installation for the system.
