Waveform Sampling Circuit

This circuit produces an amplitude distribution of a signal for a specified time interval. The sampling frequency of the circuit should be at least ten times the highest frequency of the analog signal sampled. This circuit provides rapid sampling of an analog waveform. The analog input is buffered by amplifier 5. The buffered analog signal is fed into the noninverting input of comparator 6. The signal at the inverting input of the comparator comes from a multiplying digital-to-analog converter (XDAC) 7. The multiplying function allows the output of XDAC 7 to be scaled depending on the input reference current on line 9. The digital input to XDAC 7 originates at the main counter 10 which is clocked continuously at the rate determined by the clock 11. The function of main counter 10 is twofold.
