Abstract

The propensity of magnetic monocomponent xerographic toners to triboelectrically charge, as they impact a photoconductor, is tested by a fixture which rolls the toner against the photoconductor, in the presence of a magnetic field, thus accurately simulating operation within a xerographic reproduction device. Triboelectric charging of magnetic toners against a photoconductor can cause problems in magnetic and electrophotographic printers. For this reason a test measuring magnetic toner and photoconductor triboelectric charging is needed. This test measures the triboelectric charging of magnetic toner and photoconductor in a direct, reliable way. A drawing of the test fixture is shown in the figure.
