Described is a means for correcting for one type of transmission error implemented in a system's software executed in the host computer. Most copier monitoring systems comprise a host computer communicating to a collection of terminals or copier control devices. At times, errors may occur in the transmission and reception of messages between the host and the terminals. It is necessary to have an error correction means that is transparent to the system users. The solution described is based on the fact that messages between the host and the terminals begin with a defined set of control characters. These control characters designate the type of message being transmitted.
