Two-Out-Of-Three Swapping for Solid/Intermittent Errors

This algorithm can be used to swap in a spare array card when any one of two operational array cards detects an error. The basis of the algorithm is to immediately swap the spare card upon detection of any hard error. Also, a threshold is kept and the card is swapped with the other card when the number of intermittent errors exceeds the threshold. State diagram A shows the basic swap algorithm. The flow chart describes the thresholding. The operation, as shown in the flow chart, provides capability to avoid a system failure due to recursive intermittent errors not detected by tests, allowing card swap of failing card to become reusable.
