Abstract

Icon representation of object sets permits easy selection and manipulation of object set contents as if the contents were a single object. In using traditional editors, there is no simple means of selecting an entire object or a group of objects. An object can be a table, a text paragraph, a pie chart, etc. Usually, the object or group of objects must first be block selected before any action can be taken. Flexibility here is severely limited. By defining a job into object set types such as graphs, text tables, etc., and using icons to represent the types, operation on, for example, a body of text, is facilitated. When icons are used to represent different object set types, the entire contents of the object set are selected when the icon is selected.
