Abstract

A non-transport material is added to the charge transport layer (CTL) of a xerographic photoconductor in order to improve the cycling fatigue (the number of times the photoconductor can be used in the copy process without an appreciable change in the residual potential). Diethylaminobenzaldehyde (p-DEAB) is added, in small amounts, to the CTL, which contains the transport molecule DEH. It is thought that the structure of the molecule p-DEAB, while not itself a transport molecule, maintains electron transfer, between the generating dye and adjacent DEH molecules, since the p-DEAB molecule provides a preferred conformational isomer of DEH.
