Abstract

A magnetic recording head may be positioned to the desired radius of a flexible diskette by the use of a bi-state transducer which engages its follower pin to either a rotating cam or a fixed detention rack. The recording head 12 is attached to a movable transducer 14 by means of a suspension 16. The drive motor 18 rotates the diskette 20 and cam 22. The follower pin 24 of transducer 14 (which in one embodiment may be a solenoid) can be engaged to follow the cam surface 22 or be engaged with a portion of the fixed detent rack 26. As the cam 22 rotates, the follower pin 24 and transducer 14 move radially in and out. This moves the head 12 radially along the surface of diskette 20.
