High Magnetic Field Calibration Device

This article relates generally to magnetic field calibration devices and more particularly to a device which provides for the calibration of high magnetic fields. Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of a high magnetic field calibration device 1 which includes a metallic ring 2 having a diameter less than 5000˜ with a pair of current leads 3 attached to ring 2. A pair of voltage leads 4 attached to leads 3 completes device 1. At a temperature T < 4.2ŒK, the resistance of device 1 in a magnetic field (B) N perpendicular to the plane of the ring shows a characteristic decrease in magnitude at the field in which the cyclotron radius of an electron becomes equal to the radius of ring 2. Fig. 2 shows a plot of the ring resistance (R) vs. magnetic field (B).
